Nandrolone Decanoate Description and Indication

Nandrolone Decanoate is an anabolic steroid that is naturally present in the human body in some cases. It is used to treat some aplastic anemia. Nandrolone decanoate increases the hemoglobin and red blood cell volumes in patients to whom it is administered. The Decanoate salt form of Nandrolone is an anabolic steroid analog of testosterone and has androgenic, anabolic, and erythropoietin stimulating effects. Nandrolone decanoate is also indicated for the management of anemia of renal insufficiency as Nandrolone decanoate has been shown to increase hemoglobin and red cell mass.

Nandrolone Decanoate Mechanism of Action

Upon entering a cell, Nandrolone acts by binding to and activating specific nuclear androgen receptors in responsive tissue, including the prostate, seminal vesicles, scrotum, penis, larynx, hair follicles, muscle, and bone. The resulting activated hormone receptor complex translocates into the nucleus and binds to androgen response elements in the promoter region of targeted genes, where the complex promotes gene expression necessary for maintaining male sex characteristics. Nandrolone decanoate suppresses the secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH) and stimulates erythropoietin production by enhancing the production of erythropoietic stimulating factors. It can also cause protein anabolism.
